Lovely fishing village on the coastal shore of Lassithi.

My suggestion:
Ideal for botanical hikes and mountain biking.
My review

The village of Mochlos is a true floral postcard, with its alleys adorned with bougainvilleas and geraniums. Far from the bustle of the seaside resorts on the north coast, I find that Mochlos is a pleasant place to visit during a holiday in Crete.

If you like wild plants and flowers, take a walk in Mochlos and its surrounding area to discover Cretan flora in the region: lathyrus, agave, iris, wild artichoke flowers... At the bends in the mountain trails and beautiful, lush valleys, I loved to take delight in their sweet perfume, discover endemic species of hundred-year-old olive trees and admire hilltop vines... I even had the pleasure of seeing magnificent vultures fly in the sky.

Facing the village harbour, history lovers will come to the island of Mochlos: a small island which archaeologists regularly come to dig. The island of Mochlos is a Minoan site, famous for the discovery at the beginning of the 20th century of Minoan gravestones, magnificent jewellery from the era and vases in soapstone and rock crystal. The gold jewellery is now on display at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and the collections of vases is in the Archaeological Museums of Sitia and Agios Nikolaos.
