loved their trip to Iceland

Covered the western half of the island, from Hof to Akureyri. Most of our activities were hiking (lots of waterfalls), horseback riding, whale watching, or other outdoor activities. A total of 9 days in Iceland. Pace was good; busy but not too hurried. The long days in the summer really help; you've got a lot of daylight to be active in! The real beauty in Iceland is out in the countryside - spectacular landscapes and incredible friendly people. We'll be back.

The Pros :
The spectacular scenery and the very friendly, very knowledgeable local people. The hike over the heather in Skatafells amazing, and the whale watching in Akureyri (on a zodiac) was a bucket-list experience. In general, we loved the south coast. Incredible nature and not too many people. The Icelandair hotels (Vik and Akureyri) were lovely; great accommodations, great staff, and good food.
The Cons:
Reykavik was okay; probably needed to see it, but was only a small part of our trip. Hotel Klettur is ok, but I wouldn't stay there again. Too many bus tours in the hotel.
