Solo
21 days went by, just like that. This is my second solo trip. First one was Santa Fe, New Mexico. Since, until now, I have always traveled in company of one or more, it was a big inertia to go to Santa Fe. I enjoyed the experience but felt lonely from time to time. But Buenos Aires has been different. Very rarely during the 21 days I felt lonely or alone. There were way too many new things to learn, new people to meet, a new country with its unique culture, tradition, and social norms to learn and absorb kept me intellectually and emotionally occupied. So didn’t have much time to feel lonely. May be I’m starting to master the art of traveling solo. With the exception of food, I have enjoyed every aspect of this country. People are wonderfully warm, open and friendly. Always very curious about Los Angeles. Kobe’s unfortunate passing, created many opportunities for people to share their sorrow. And connect with each other in an emotional level. That was very touching. As recently as this morning, Barbara, one of my favorite front desk manger mentioned to me the names Kobe and Calabasas in the same sentence as I was discussing today is my last day. The weather has been extremely comfortable. Especially the early mornings. Walking to the coffee shop has been my best part of the day. Ever so slightly cool mornings with ever so slight breeze. Just heavenly.
The best parts:
It was an amazing trip. I liked just about everythng about the trip: the country, the people, beaty of the landscape, weather.
The worst parts:
Didn't care for the food.

It was a pleasure to meet you here, I love the talks we had and the Indian food was delicious, I went back again just a week after. I hope to see you back in Buenos Aires someday! Picked up at San Juan bus station for a 3 hour ride to Barreal in two vehicles the first day. Group Meeting. Nice hotel with a great view and a pool. Two rooms, 5 girls in one with two bedrooms. Two beds in one, three in the other. Very comfortable. Boys in other room. Day 2 stunning thrilling 3 hour drive to start of ride. Mounted up for a three hour ride to first campsite. Every day started about 9 am riding 6-9 hours a day. Potty stops in morning and afternoon and a lunch stop. Scenery was mesmerizing every day. Set up camp and tents, then a 'snack' then dinner after 9pm. In January light until after 9pm. Gauchos got your horses saddled, and unsaddled at end of day. Plan for WIND! Most stunning thrilling exciting week ever!
The best parts:
Absolutely the best trip ever! Andes mountains were stunning! breathtaking views every day. We were not cold as we dressed properly, and overpacked a bit. People were extremely nice and helpful, staff and other guests. As staff spoke spanish, and our guide Cristian a very little english, we were fortunate to have three guests from Argentina that spoke good english and translated for us. Horses were amazing, strong, safe and comfortable. I would go back in a minute, even with notes below!
The worst parts:
Food was good at times, and not so great others. We had delicious spaghetti and soup dinners, and fresh goat that I was told was delicious. I don't eat much meat so went vegetarian, and Our leader only got that memo a few days prior to our ride. Breakfast was old bread, and if you asked jam, every day. Snack once we returned to camp was the same bread and jam. Lunch on trail three days was great, picnic blanket and all: ham and cheese slices, with old bread, and tomatoes/olives/peanuts. Other days a sandwich with a meat mix, I got corn one day and a can of tuna another. It worked for me, but plan ahead, I would bring breakfast bars, snacks for day, instant soup and hot chocolate next time. Stirrups are very narrow, plan for shoes that will be warm and are narrow!

Dear Linda, hope you had a pleasant flight back home I’m super happy to learn that you enjoyed this trip with your friend! I was anxiously waiting to read your report for this fabulous adventure on horseback across the Andes. I can’t even imagine the stories you have to tell now :) Glad to have been part of this by helping you arrange this marvelous experience. I have passed your comments though to the supplying company, especially for the guide’s English speaking skills and the fact that they were not advised of your dietary restrictions only until some days before the start of the program when we informed them several months before that. As for the quality of some items in the meal, I can also imagine it’s tough to supply fresh ingredients being that isolated from society. Anyway, glad to know these issues did not affect your journey and you consider it as the best trip ever! I look forward to hearing from you soon for another adventure Warmest regards. L.

I travel independently all over the world but Patagonia just seemed too off the grid to organize by myself. Shandra, my travel agent, helped me narrow down the options and organized all the rooms and flights and buses and guided hikes. I am super satisfied with the trip. Her help was invaluable.
The best parts:
The hiking was exactly what I wanted to do. Using guides for the hikes was very wise. The guides were very professional. And the scenery was even better than I'd imagine it would be.
The worst parts:
I paid the extra money for transfers to not have to deal with taxi drivers etc. Our transfer in Santiago was late by over an hour. We did not have a cell phone to call and find out if he was coming or not. Very irksome. Yes they gave us a dinner box the next day when they took us back to the airport but that did not ease the stress or exhaustion from the day before. I could have taken a cab and been there by the time we left the airport. The hotel in Torres Del Paines is all inclusive BUT they don't offer many tours every day thus I did not get to do all the hiking I wanted to do.

Hello Janis, Thank you so much for leaving us this nice review. I’m sorry to hear that you were this disappointed about the organized transfers, in general. I understand there was a delay for the transfer in Santiago, so I will send this feedback to the company so they make sure it won’t happen again. They had informed me that the driver had had a problem on the way. I’m really glad that all the trekkings were what you had hoped for and that you had a nice time in Patagonia. It was really fun for me to plan the trip with you. I hope that we will get the chance to plan another trip for you in the future to see everything you couldn’t this time! Sincere regards, Shandra

We wanted to go to Argentina and knew the itinerary we wanted. We bought our airline tickets to all places and had booked some hotels. We needed help filling in all the activities we wanted to do and have guides and transportation. Shandra understood our wishes and was able to customize the trip we wanted.
The best parts:
-Easy to navigate the Evaneos website. -Shandra is knowledgeable, listened well, and was very responsive to my emails and phone calls. -Organized well -We were well informed of the plan -Price was good -Most guides were very knowledgeable, kind, and spoke English well -We loved our driver Arnan. He was extremely punctual, kind, and treated us like family. We miss him!
The worst parts:
Some private guides did not speak English well enough for us to understand them.

Fantastic trip-- exceeded expectations. Very much worthwhile, even for 4 days. If we had more time, I would have liked to cross into Chile to see the other side of the mountains. We planned our trip at the last minute and were grateful that Shandra was able to get us convenient hotels. Lunajuin and Kosten Aike were nice; if there was more time to plan, a higher end option would be nice as well.
The best parts:
Very well planned Activities were spectacular, especially pert Moreno mini-trekking, rafting in Chalten, and hiking in Chalten. Also enjoyed horseback ride at Estancia Cristina very much. Hotels were very convenient, everything was easy. The guides and transportation personnel could not have been nicer. Wonderful people!
The worst parts:
Weather was very cold and wet in Chalten-- we did the entire Laguna de Los Tres hike in cold, downpour with very little visibility. It was snowing at the top. We were not prepared for these conditions which made the trip harder. Box lunches were not great. Would have preferred empanada and salad options. Several lunches did not have vegetarian options.

Hola Jonathan, Thank you so much for this nice feedback. It was really nice to plan this trip with you, even if it was last minute. Everything went so smoothly so it’s really great to hear that you and your family had a great time in our beautiful country. Weather conditions can be a bit unpredictable here, but I will make sure to advise future travelers about the hard conditions one can be confronted with in Patagonia. As for the vegetarian lunch options, it’s always important to be notified beforehand so we can plan ahead. Next time, we will make sure you have more options offered to you. I hope that you will come back soon to see the rest of the country, as well as Chilean Patagonia, it’s also very beautiful J Thank you so much for trusting us to design your trip. It always brings a smile to my face to know that our travelers had the best time! Many wishes to you and the family. Saludos, Shandra

A tightly packed 12 days to see some of the highlights Argentina / Patagonia has to offer. Buenos Aires, Iguazú, El Calafate, Ushuaia. A lot of flying to get to destinations, but once at destinations the excursions and guides offered the best of what was on offer Iguazú falls, Perito Moreno, Torres del Paine, Chalten, Tierra del Fuego.
The best parts:
The WHOLE trip was excellently organised and co-ordinated. We did not need to worry about any aspect of the daily excursions or various connections we had throughout the trip. We were collected on time, transferred to where we needed to be, hotels were expecting us. Everyone was courteous, welcoming and helpful. Great job Evanoes and the various agents you used to make this trip possible!
The worst parts:
Am struggling to think of a ‘worse’ part.... if I had to chose something it would be making a 3am transfer from Buenos Aires to Iguazú.... but that could not have been helped given our tight schedule. Or the long drive to Torres del Paine from Calafate... if we had more time I might have opted to stay in Chile ....

I always wanted to visit Argentina and bask in the awesomeness of Patagonia, but I also wanted to experience the 'must see' aspects of the country. I wrote to the local agency at your recommendation, gave them the specifics of number of days, type of hotels, type of tours, and a hopeful budget. and in two days I had a suggested itinerary. We made two small changes and it was done! All internal flights were handled, all hotel reservations, all tours, all airport/hotel/airport transfers. The local agency and Shandra in particular took all the stress away. This was truly an awesome experience and a stress free vacation.
The best parts:
I liked how everything worked flawlessly. There was a driver with my name on a sign EVERY time we stepped out of the baggage hall in the different airports. I liked how each hotel gave us an update each night as to what our pick up time would be the next morning. I like that every hotel and every tour guide was aware of our simple but special dietary needs. I love that all my requests were considered. I specified three star minimum, boutique or family run hotels, that's exactly what I got. I asked for small group tours and except for one instance, that's what we got. I specified the places that I wanted to see and I got it ALL!
The worst parts:
Absolutely nothing!

The best parts:

The worst parts:
Nightmare with last minute change and problem with flights ticket. Hotel in Torres del paine and Puerto Madryn was not the best quality

All of the hiking was beautiful. Enjoyed the towns as well. And our stay in Huilo Huilo after all of the trekking was a nice reward.
The best parts:
Fitz Roy was the best with beautiful scenery and great hiking. The traveling to get there was well worth it. The W Trek was fantastic and since we had finished the trek early, the flexibility of taking an earlier ferry was quite convenient.
The worst parts:
Although it was nice to have the refugios some of the common areas were quite crowded and were overrun with large groups that thought they were the only people there and didn’t make room for other people to enjoy a fire or pushed people aside during mealtimes. The restrooms in the Grande Paine were disgusting with no running water. Very unsanitary.

Dear Harry, hope you had a pleasent flight back home :) I'm so happy to know you had a nice time here in SouthAmerica with our services. A pity to know that group in the refugios ruined a little the experience, but I'm sure the landscapes worth the patience! Huilo Huilo is a gem that everybody should be able to know, right? Until next time!

The best parts:
Very efficient organisation. Quick responsive problem solving. e.g changing plans because of a delayed flight. High standard of accommodation. Well planned schedule which met our requirements.
The worst parts:
Internal flight delays

We went to Buenos Aires (city touring), then Puerto Madryn (Penguins, Elephant Seals, Whale watching and more wildlife!). Next we flew to Ushuaia where we got to hike Tierro Del Fuego and see the lighthouse at the end of the world. After that we hiked the Perito Moreno Glacier in El Calafate and took a day trip to Torres Del Paine, Chile--the wind was unlike anything I have ever experienced! After our little tour of Patagonia, we headed back to Buenos Aires to wrap up our trip with some fun in the city!
The best parts:
We loved our trip to Buenos Aires & Patagonia, Argentina! And it really is all because of the local agency. Working with them was awesome, always prompt in responding and making sure we got to see the things we want to see. Natalia was great in helping me plan the trip and always provided thorough answers to all questions (sometimes even send a google map with clear instructions of meeting points, etc!). I have to say the most impressing part of working with this tour agency was how they responded when we had a big hiccup in our plans. The domestic airline went on strike the day we were supposed to leave to Patagonia--within minutes we were met at the airport by a woman from the agency, and taken to a hotel while they rescheduled THE ENTIRE TRIP!! I can't imagine how frustrating that would have been for the agency, let alone if we had to do it ourselves. We had back to back activities and other flights planned, it would have been a complete nightmare if we had to do it ourselves. Luckily they did warn us to book a couple days between our international and domestic flights, and doing so saved us the ability to still do ALL excursions we had originally booked..definitely give yourself time in case of hiccups! After that experience, I would highly recommend using a travel agency if you plan on going somewhere where airline strikes tend to happen. They kept in constant communication throughout the trip and seemed to be very well organized. I am very picky about giving good reviews and this tour agency definitely deserves an exceptional one! I am serious--if it wasn't for them, our trip would likely have been a complete disaster! They worked with us and the budget we had to see penguins, whales, hike glaciers and see the 'End of the World' Ushuaia--truly amazing!
The worst parts:
The obvious - a domestic airline strike the day we were supposed to fly to Patagonia, but thanks to our local agency it really did not affect our trip in the end after all! I would recommend letting tourists know that you should have Argentine Pesos on hand to pay national/ provincial park fees. We were given the fees in US Dollars and got lucky that we had JUST enough because we thought they would take US Dollars (most places will, but not so much the parks). Getting currency was tricky, bank lines/ATM Machines were tricky and wouldn't work for us..luckily some hotels would exchange and some vendors will take US cash and return pesos in cash, so be aware of current exchange rates--but this helped us a lot with accumulating pesos.

For our honeymoon, we knew we wanted to visit Patagonia and a two new cities in South America. We were able to see the sights of the city and had a great time hiking over glaciers and mountains. All the hotels were nice and accommodating as well. Highly recommend visiting!
The best parts:
Easy to book and great communication with the team. Came up with a trip that was adventurous but still gave us time to relax and recover from traveling between destinations.
The worst parts:
One of the hotels forgot to give us our welcome packet and updated itinerary but this was not the fault of the travel company.

We flew from the UK to Buenos Aires but the next day flew to Puerto Iguacu as we were attending a conference in Foz do Iguassu, Brazil. The local agency arranged for a driver to collect us and take us through the border to our hotel on the Brazilian side. At the end of the confetence the same arrangements were made for our retun to Buenos Aires. We then left the next morning to fly to Bariloche, an alpine town in a lovely setting. We had a very comfortable hotel with a nice room overlooking the lake. While there we had two trips, one to the Seven Lakes and the other to the Black Glacier. After Bariloche we went on to El Calafate. This was a shortened visit due to the strike mentioned above. However our two days there at the Perito Moreno Glacier and El Chalten were fantastic days. From there we flew to Ushuaia and went on two trips, both to National Parks, the second including the End of the World train. It was interesting being in the city which is the most southern city in the world. We then returned to Buenos Aires for two nights. The hotel was in a very good neighbourhood, Recoletta, which felt safe for going out. We had a city tour in the afternoon which I would recommend as it enables you to see parts of the Ciity which would be difficult to do independently in a short space of time.
The best parts:
Everything. The local agency put together a fantastic itinerary for us. Normally we are independent travellers and this was our first experience of using a bespoke travel service. We will certainly consider it again as everything was taken care of. We stayed in good quality hotels. We were met at each airport for transfers and collected from our hotels for all the trips. All guides were fluent in English and had a very good knowledge of the areas we visited. On some trips there were just the two of us, other trips were small numbers of people from many countries. Part way through our trip (in Bariloche) there was a general strike which meant no flights but Mateo from the local agency managed to get us on the flight the next day to El Calafate. We expected that this would mean we would miss a trip to Perito Moreno Glacier but the local agent still took us late in the afternoon on a private tour which we really appreciated as the glacier was spectacular. The weather was also superb and this visit was a real highlight of the trip. The next day we had a trip organised to El Chalten mountain range. Another glorious blue sky day and stunning scenery. We planned to hike to a lagoon near El Chalten but I was experiencing knee problems. Our guide Sebastian, and our driver, Alexis, were extremely kind and accommodating. Thankfully we managed the hike as the views were stunning. Another fabulous day. Further south (Ushuaia) we encountered the coldest weather of the trip but our hotel was in a very convenient area of the city and was very warm and cosy.
The worst parts:
Leaving. Absolutely nothing bad to report.
