I adored Bwejuu, an unpretentious village that the big hotels do not have the monopoly of. On the contrary, here you find much smaller structures, and even single rooms for 38£ in the small, cosy wooden bungalows, right on the beach, set down on the sand in front of the coconut trees. Ideal for lazing on the beach in all simplicity, the real luxury here is the intimacy and proximity of the beach and nature (it is more "roots").
That is where I stayed; you are lulled by the sound of the sea, you hear the wind in the palm tree leaves and are protected by a mosquito net, it was very romantic. I adored the wild aspect of Bwejuu and the kindness of its inhabitants, especially the women from the small handicrafts centre who make pretty items with local wax cloth.
In the daytime, you see the women and the fishermen go by, and you can walk on the beach that is bordered by a incredible coconut forest.
The road from Paje to Bwejuu is in very good condition, but stay attentive so you do not miss your hotel's sign on the roadside. Be aware that after this you have to follow a sand trail for 10 minutes in order to reach the seaside (herein lies the charm of this village that is intact and out of the way).
