Mountain range situation to the North of Adelaide, the Flinders Ranges are one of the most beautiful natural sights in Australia, at the edge of the desert.
I spent a few days hiking and camping in the Flinders Ranges and that remains one of my best memories of Australia. It was here that I became fully aware of the immensity of the Australian outback and the diversity of its views.
You are effectively both not far from a city (Adelaide), forests, mountains and at the start of a red sand desert which extends to the North of the mountain range.
The Flinders Ranges should be, in my opinion, an obligatory stop-off for all trips to Australia . Above all, if you have the opportunity to spend a night in the heart of the natural park, don't miss the sunset which gives the cliffs of the mountains a red hue which is absolutely unforgettable.

To cut a long story short, the Flinders Ranges will blow you away. I won't forget this national park, with its idyllic landscape and incredible wildlife!
When you go, I hope you spot red kangaroos lazing under shady bushes, emus that smile at the camera and eagles that are so big they have hard time taking off... Every now and then you'll come across an animal skeleton, all part and parcel of life in the Australian outback.
Hiking fans will also love the Flinders Ranges. Its diverse landscape is great for walking, be it for a few hours or several days. A highlight is the famous Wilpena Pond - a 'natural amphitheatre'.
