The best time to travel to Botswana is between May and September. At this time, the days are hot, and the animals stay near the watering holes: they're easy to spot. Summer, which lasts from October to April in Botswana, is much less appealing: the heat is stifling and rain is frequent and heavy.
Travel through the national parks
Botswana is well known for its national parks and nature reserves. Head to the famous Chobe National Park, where you'll see many different wild animals in a beautiful setting. You could also choose the Makgadikgadi and Nxai national parks, absolutely superb, and home to just as many species. Opt to travel there between May and September.
A trip through the desert
Travel to the Kalahari and discover one of Africa's most famous deserts. Made up of sand, but also containing trees and rivers, there are different nature parks and reserves within it. You'll see hyenas before discovering the Mabuasehube-Gemsbok National Park, where you can see different animals, but also witness the moving dunes. Visit between May and September.
A trip up the Okovango delta
The Okovango is the third river in Southern Africa. Discover its wild expanses, seeing elephants, zebras, giraffes and many different bird species. You can also discover the Moremi Nature Reserve, considered one of the most beautiful in Southern Africa. It's best to travel between May and September.
Visit Botswana's most beautiful cities
Head off to Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. Climb Mount Kgabe, from which you'll have an incredible view over the city, and visit its various museums, such as the Gaborone Game Reserve. Make sure you also check out Serowe and the Museum of Khama III. It's best to travel between May and September.
A sports and adventure trip
Botswana offers a wide variety of sports and adventures. You can go on safari on the back of an elephant in the Okovango or take flying lessons in the Maun. Discover the country's wildlife via one of its many hiking routes. Opt for the period between May and September.
