Canoa Quebrada (literally "broken canoe"), one of northern Brazil's best known beaches, attracts both local tourists and visitors from the world over with its steep cliffs plunging down to the sea!

My suggestion:
Spend two or three days relaxing at Canoa Quebrada on your trip to Brazil, drinking coconut milk and enjoying Brazilian beach food.
My review

Canoa Quebrada, with its very beautiful beaches and plunging cliffs, has been a popular destination since the 1970s. According to legend, the village's symbol comes from the crescent and the moon, the symbols of Islam; though if the truth be known, nobody really knows whether this is true or not.

The village lies around 15 or 20 kilometers from the region's "largest" city: Aracati. You can travel to and from Aracati using the local taxis, buses or mini-buses.

The main street, Broadway, is full of shops selling souvenirs, local craft products and beachwear as well as nice bars and restaurants.

A classic thing to do at the beaches of northern Brazil, and especially at Canoa, is to go for one of the famous dune buggy rides, which is always something worth doing and always fun.

Canoa is a good place to go bathing and was packed with people this Christmas and New Year (2014). It's a good idea to visit when it isn't high season.

Donkeys, which are an integral part of life in the Northeast, are also used for treks along the coast in Canoa Quebrada.
