The village lies around 15 or 20 kilometers from the region's "largest" city: Aracati. You can travel to and from Aracati using the local taxis, buses or mini-buses.
The main street, Broadway, is full of shops selling souvenirs, local craft products and beachwear as well as nice bars and restaurants.
A classic thing to do at the beaches of northern Brazil, and especially at Canoa, is to go for one of the famous dune buggy rides, which is always something worth doing and always fun.
Canoa is a good place to go bathing and was packed with people this Christmas and New Year (2014). It's a good idea to visit when it isn't high season.
