It's the most densely populated city in China and one of the most modern.

My suggestion:
Go up to the top of Shanghai World Financial Center, have tea in the French concession, bargain in the "fake market", go to a restaurant in Xintiandi, and try a hot stone massage!
My review

If you go to Beijing for the historical and political atmosphere, Shanghai is more of a party town: it is very cosmopolitan, and has lots of "western style" restaurants, bars and night clubs. Better preserved, the old city is home to Yuyuan Garden. The temple of Jing'an and the temple of the Jade Buddha are the two to visit. You also shouldn't miss People's Square, Nanjing Road, the Shanghai Museum, and the Opera House.

In the evening walk along The Bund and admire the many skyscrapers of Pudong, the business district.

Shanghai, the Chinese city that is always on the go...

My suggestion:
Like a lot of cities in China, it's better not to stay there too long in summer because it is quite polluted...
My review

I stayed in Shanghai for 3 days and have a bit of a crush for this city and its large avenues which seems more lively than Beijing. I think it was about the right length because I had a good look at the city: the famous Yu Garden, People's Square, the unmissable Bund (the avenue which borders the Huangpu River) and its lively restaurants, and the "Skyline" (a forest of high rise buildings) which dominates the city.

You can eat well there, party with the Chinese, and I even got myself a made to measure suit for less than £55. There are some lovely walks, especially in the beautiful Fuxing Park in the old French Concession, whose plane trees remind you of French parks.
