The best period to travel to Guatemala is between December and April: the temperatures are pleasant and you'll have the opportunity to celebrate Easter as it should be celebrated. The months from May to September should be avoided at all costs, as it's the rainy season and so there's mud in some spots. The storms can be fierce in October and November. And be warned: apart from in the mountains, the temperatures are often hot and the climate humid.

Guatemala is full of magnificent remains of the Mayan civilisation. You can't miss the legendary site of Tikal, as well as the Copan site's headstones. If you want to avoid the crowds, head for Quirigua, a site which is just as beautiful, but visited less. Preferably set off between December and April to discover these treasures in the best possible climate.

In Guatemala, you'll come across turtles and whales, as well as numerous species of birds, for example, in the village of Monterrico. On the banks of the Dulce River, you can see manatees and crocodiles, whilst bird lovers will discover a large number of them in the tropical forests around Coban. Set off between December and April to avoid the rain and mud which consequently invades the jungle.

Go hiking in Guatemala, notably in the volcanic scenery. You can also travel the country by mountain bike or motorbike. Go scuba diving and water-rafting, as well as swimming, of course. And you'll certainly spend some time watching the birds in Tikal National Park or elsewhere. Choose the period which stretches from December to April.
