Best places to visit in Iceland

Iceland’s culture and natural landscapes are unlike anywhere else. A place with such diverse landscapes isn’t for everyone, but for those who love nature and are unfazed by cold weather, Iceland is not to be missed.

Gaëtan MOLENE
A city in the south, along route number 1, which offers some accommodation and places to eat.
A stopover village on Route 1. There's a waterfall you can visit and it's also the departure point for hikes into the Fjallabak Natural Reserve.
Located on the shores of Lake Laugarvatn, not far from the site of Thingvellir, this village offers some accommodation and a swimming pool/spa which gives a little life to the region.
When you leave Vik in the direction of Jokulsarlon, you pass through this expanse of lava desert that stretches as far as the eye can see with the glaciers in the background, a rare landscape in Iceland.
Just opposite the little village of Djúpivogur, the island of Papey stands tall with its 2 square kilometres of uninhabited land. It is a landmark for the birds that come in the summer to nest in its cliffs and on its green slopes.
A fishing village which specialises in shrimp fishing, the main economic activity of the majority of the villagers.
A fjord in the north of the country, away from Route No.1 that has excellent mountain and coastal walks.
A little port to the north of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and arrival/departure point for ferries linking the western fjords and the small island of Flatey.
Above Husavik, a small peninsula facing the northern sea, which offers a beautiful view of the midnight sun in summer.
A seaside town which is fairly uninteresting except for its proximity to the airport.
A large town in South Iceland. It is not very charming but it is a practical place in which to get supplies and stay.
