Breiddalsvik is the kind of typical Icelandic village that unites a fjord, a public swimming pool, a hotel restaurant and a petrol station. Suffice it to say, there are few things to amuse ourselves with other than the extraordinary countryside all around us.
I stopped over at Breiddalsvik during my tour of the island and this allowed me to take the time to visit the other fishing villages, such as Djúpivogur, and to go for a stroll through the surrounding areas.
The restaurant actually is good quality and fully deserves to be stopped at.
In winter, the village and the mountains are covered in a thick white blanket, the road often needs to be cleared of snow, and everything seems cocoon-like. Few people come here in this season but, as I have friends in Egilsstadir, it was on the way. It can prove to be difficult. Maybe next time I will go by plane...
