Sicily is an Italian island situated 3 kilometres west from the toe of the Italian boot, across the Strait of Messina.

My suggestion:
Sicily is a very big island. If you have limited time, it is better to just visit part of the island, according to your tastes.
My review

We spent a month touring Sicily in a camper van on a journey through Italy. We took the ferry from San Giovanni crossing the strait to arrive at Messina.

We decided to do our tour anti-clockwise. Sicily is a land of contrasts. It has an exceptionally rich cultural, historical and gastronomic heritage. Nature is equally generous here, volcanoes, black or white sandy beaches, hiking, you can do anything you want.

After visiting Cap Milazzo, we headed inland, on narrow, winding roads through glorious countryside. Then Cefalu, Palermo the capital, Monreale and Erice, often forgotten although extremely interesting. Tropea and Trapani were the next stops.

Then on to Agrigente and its famous Valley of the Temples, where we stayed for a few days The beaches are pleasant and there are many monuments from a glorious past.

The visit continued to Enna and the Lombardia castle, Pergusa and Piazza Armerina to see the Villa Romana del Casale.

Gela, Ragusa, Noto, Avola, Syracuse and Ortygia Island completed our tour of Sicily with inland forays to see the magnificent landscapes.

We just went through Catania which seemed too big and we headed towards Taormina and Giardini Naxos to return to Messina.
