Okinawa archipelago groups together Japan's southernmost islands.

My suggestion:
If you have a little time and wish to see some totally different aspects of Japan, Okinawa is the ideal place. The islands are perfect for diving, snorkelling and other marine activities, as well as for discovering tropical forests.
My review
Okinawa is an archipelago with a multitude of islands, each of them distinctive. As from the month of April or May and until autumn, you can enjoy paradisiacal beaches, swim with fish that are hardly shy, and go on an exotic fruit diet of pineapples and mangoes in particular.
The boat is often the only way to go from one island to the other, sometimes there are air links, but watch out for the passage of typhoons, frequent in the region, that can disrupt your plans or keep you stuck in your accommodation.
The bicycle, omnipresent in the archipelago like in the rest of Japan, allows you to explore the different islands, but there are also alternative means such as the canoe along the mangrove bordered rivers.
