In the heart of a volcanic massif, the lake was formed by successive lava flows that blocked the course of the water and created a natural bowl. On the lake, an sacred peninsula houses the tomb of King Andriambahoaka as well as a colony of fruit bats. There are also possibilities for other excursions and hiking: the beautiful waterfalls of the Lily River, which feeds the lake, are situated 5 kilometres from the town of Ampefy. In the direction of Analavory, you will find cold water geysers that spit out a liquid charged with minerals, giving the surrounding rocks a beautiful yellow, red and ochre colouring.
