You can reach the glaciers of Mount Turgen from Ulaangom to the northeast or from Bayshint to the west. It takes at least a day by bus or car to reach the base of the glacier. There are several trails in this area where the blend of stunning scenery and complete solitude only add to the impression of an infinite landscape. This part of Mongolia is referred to as the 'Great Lakes Depression' and there are several beautiful lakes that you can tour. Lake Uvs, to the north, is the largest in Mongolia. Make sure you wrap up warm, as the temperature differences are the most extreme in all of Asia. It can even get really cold in summer - occasionally it snows!
