Travel in Montenegro

Montenegro or the 'Black Mountain'. The mere name of this country evokes both mystery and romance; this fascinating territory far from disappoints its visitors. A destination often favoured by mountain lovers, most of Montenegro is covered by forest. But it's also home to the Adriatic Sea, with Big Beach that stretches for 14 km long, the UNESCO classified old town of Kotor, as well as the much celebrated Budva. From north to south, a wealth of sights and sounds await the visitor. To the north and east, you've got the Durmitor and Prokletyes National Parks, both incredibly beautiful and where you'll be trudging through snow in the morning yet going for a dip later in the day! Daily life remains traditional and many farmers still live without electricity - but that doesn't mean the welcome isn't warm. Lake Skadar, meanwhile, is the largest lake in the Balkans, extending as far as Albania. A migration hotspot, there's no better place to spot hundreds of different bird species in the dawn's early light. Medigovići, Perast, the Gulf of Kotor, are just some other places that will make your trip to Montenegro a truly unforgettable experience.

The best time of year for a trip to Montenegro is the period from May to October. But do be aware that it gets very hot in July and August, and the beaches are packed. So at that point in the year, it's best to head to the mountains. As for skiers, they should travel between January and March.

Montenegro is a very interesting country with much more history and beauty than we could have ever imagined! It was good experience to have the help of Nikola's agency by our side the whole way making sure our trip was trouble free. Although in hind site, my personal preferences would dictate some changes to the itinerary, I thought they performed very well in setting up this tour.
