Imilchil has been called "Little Tibet", and I quickly understood why. The climate there is harsh and even harsher in winter. And the landscape is quite austere. I found that the only notable event in Imilchil is the Moussem or Marriage Festival, which takes place each year in September, in Sidi Ahmed Oulmaghani, 3 kilometres from Imilchil.
Imilchil then comes out of its sleepiness: the douar is taken by storm in a considerable frenzy, by the Berbers of the region and the tourists on holiday in Morocco, Tents are constructed in Oulmaghani to receive the visitors; the hawkers get ready for some good business, tagines, skewers and other delicious dishes are concocted during the three days of the festival.
The Moussem brings together the young and single Berbers of the region in their most beautiful attire, but no marriage is celebrated there. It's essentially a festive time for meeting people: I saw men proclaiming their love for their bride in public, by reciting poems.
