Mangawhai is a charming village that sits by the coast, surrounded by green hills.

My suggestion:
A sunset picnic on its great surfing beach will show you just how pretty this area is. And if you're lucky, you may spot dolphins at the estuary's entrance.
My review

Arriving at the start of summer, I was able to make the most of Mangawhai and its beach, a surfer's paradise. When the weather's good, there's nothing better than stretching out on its sand and gazing across to Taranga Island. If want to exercise your legs, then I recommend a walk that overlooks the beach and has amazing views of Northland's coast. If you're looking for a quiet spot, then head towards a stunning lake, which is nestled in the heart of the surrounding hills.

New Zealand's small towns are usually lively places and Mangawhai is no exception. I spent time with a New Zealand family who were very involved in local life. I learned all about their daily lives, from work to sport, voluntary activities to nightlife. Mangawhai is somewhere you can imagine living full time.

And if you like your food as much as I do, you should stop by Mangawhai Deli, a coffee shop that serves the best pies - a New Zealand favorite, not to be missed!
