The road that takes you to Yanque is worth the trip in itself. Though this is quite a tiny backwoods village, it does offer a warm welcome to visitors.

My suggestion:
If there's one activity I recommend you try in Yanque, it's horse trekking. The scenery in the area is quite remarkable, and what a wonderful way to discover and explore the Peruvian countryside in and around the Colca Valley.
My review

Each city and town in Peru – indeed each village even – has its own Plaza de Armas (the main square). At the one in the village of Yanque, I saw a lady wearing the traditional costume of the region and carrying a huge bird of prey on her shoulder. She was in fact offering tourists the chance to have their photographs taken with the bird. I couldn't resist the temptation myself, and what a thrill it was! I greatly enjoyed the experience! For those of you who aren't that fond of birds of prey, some of the ladies also have llamas or alpacas with them!

I didn't spend all that long in this town, though If I'd had more time, I would definitely have paid a visit to the thermal baths, i.e. "Las Termas de Tambo".

Yanque also contains a beautiful church, which you can see and admire at the main square. The building gets its colour from the material used in its construction: a white-coloured volcanic rock.
