With no beaches, numerous construction sites and heavy traffic, at first glance Coron doesn't seem that appealing. But don't be fooled. It's welcoming and laid back, with excellent restaurants and plenty of great dives!
Exploring Coron is about diving down to its numerous World War Two shipwrecks. More than twenty Japanese ships were sunk by the Americans, leaving behind a spectacular marine landscape, suited to divers of all levels.
I highly recommend two dive sites - the Tangat et Kogyo Maru merchant shipwrecks. You can explore their holds, spot sea lions and moray eels, alongside a wealth of other species that lurk in this surreal universe. Superb dives, where you can explore a breathtaking environment, despite the limited visibility, at only an hour from the port.
If you love history and diving, then I can highly recommend a holiday in the Philippines centred around the exploration of these Japanese shipwrecks.
