Reszel, which was formerly known as Rössel, is a very enjoyable place to visit and explore in the Warmia region of Poland. This small and very well-preserved town still contains a number of examples of original Teutonic architecture, in particular the imposing red-brick castle.

Reszel was formerly one of the strongholds of the Teutonic knights before returning to Polish hands again in the 15th century. What strikes you when you first arrive is how charming the place is, with the town having managed to retain and preserve its original character. With its cobbled streets and typically Prussian houses, a visit to the old town of Reszel is like taking a little trip back in time. The market square, with its two-storey houses, its hotel and its traditional covered stalls, has the atmosphere of a place where time has come to a standstill to an extent.
There are two particularly prominent and significant buildings dating from the Teutonic era still in existence in Reszel. One of these is the superb Gothic church, which is constructed entirely in red brick and features a highly elaborate facade. But what people mainly come here to see is the Episcopal castle dating from the 14th century, which, along with Malbork and Chelmno, ranks as one of the major architectural achievements of the Teutonic Order.
