Reviews of Novgorod

An historic city, Novgorod is perhaps the oldest Russian city and it was even the country's capital in the IX century.

My suggestion:
Novgorod's historical importance is such that it would be a shame to visit the city without learning about its culture and its history.
My review

As well as the pleasant character of the city itself, Novgorod has lots of historical and cultural resources. The home of Orthodox spirituality, many churches and religious buildings can be found there. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this city which is steeped in spirituality and which boasts stunning architecture rooted in simplicity and modesty.

I also really enjoyed walking along the river. Many small churches lie on the outer side of the city so don't hesistate to cross the river and discover them! I must say that the Kremlin is a very interesting place to visit. Among the masterpieces not to be missed include parts of a mural of Theophanes the Greek, which dates from the XIV century. It's the only mural of the master that you'll have the chance of seeing during your trip to Russia .
