A palace in the outskirts of St Petersburg. The cascades of fountains that flow into the Gulf of Finland are magnificent.

My suggestion:
If you want a really glamorous view then come by boat from the centre of "Saint-Pete" directly to the foot of the fountain cascade. It's more expensive but it is really much more elegant than taking the van from Avtovo!
My review

I do love architectural beauty, museums and lavish decorations but I am more of a nature person, and I prefer parks and open air life. So I wasn't really very enthusiastic about Peterhof Palace, even though it is very beautiful.

Its main attraction are the cascades of fountains. On a sunny summer day the fountains are truly magnificent!

Concerts and shows are organised to coincide with the opening and closing of the season when the fountains are on (April/May for the opening, and around September for the closing). These event are very crowded because all the local inhabitants go.

Between October and April the fountains are switched off (although the palace is still open), so the place loses its principal attraction if you are travelling in Russia during the cold season (which lasts for 7 months in Russia).

A beautiful day at Peterhof
