I arrived on the heights of Lake Akkajaure via the Padjelanta trail and at the beginning of autumn. It was absolutely magnificent, especially when the clouds were coming and going. The route on the left side of the lake, from Ritsem to Gällivare, and off the beaten path, gives you glimpses of sumptuous landscapes with fjords and imposing mountains.
I loved the little autumnal village of Vaisaluokta, which is mainly made up of holiday homes. The wardens of the STF refuge (which I recommend for its view) welcomed me with a drink and a chat while waiting for the boat.
The boats gets you to different view points on the lake. You can walk along it, or towards the summits, especially the famous Mount Akka, which is 2,016 m high and very symbolic for the Sami.
