My suggestion
If you're staying at Recife, make sure you spend a day in Olinda! If you're there in February/March, you'll be happy to know that Olinda's carnival is the best in Brazil!

My suggestion
Get to the town by driving along La Rota Ecologica, the 'coral reef' road, to the south of Recife; a must see during a vacation in Brazil. It's one the most stunning stretches of Brazil's coastline.
