Kakheti is the most easterly region of Georgia. It's also the principal wine making region and has some magnificent scenery.

My suggestion:
The region's capital, Telavi, is a good base camp for exploring the charms of the surrounding area.
My review

When Georgians hear the name Kakheti they immediately think of one thing: wine! And you'll soon realise why if you decide to spend some time in this beautiful region. Never a celebration, a meal or a meeting goes by without a glass of the local wine, produced in the green hills of the region. So get ready to taste lots of glasses of wine in this beautiful rural area with its very special landscape: low mountains striped with vines, historic old villages and numerous magnificent monasteries.

Because Kakheti isn't just about wine - it has a lot of history, like the wonderful David Garedja monastery which is on top of a hill, or the Greni monastery. Altogether, Kakheti is a region you really must have on your Georgian itinerary during your trip.
