A beautiful peninsula on Reykjavik's doorstep that's often overlooked by tourists.

My suggestion:
Take the time to explore it - its sites are well worth the while!
My review

Reykjanes is a must during a trip to Iceland, not least because it's on this peninsula that you'll find the international airport. Most tourists land and head straight off on a bus to visit other destinations, which is a shame as the peninsula has some superb sites on offer.

I particularly loved the coast with its pitch black cliffs and straw-coloured vegetation. Reykjanes is on the rift where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet and boasts a volcanic landscape. I was impressed by Gunnuhver with its fumaroles and solfatares.

There's also a bridge linking the two continents, which is a pleasant place to stop before you head to the Blue Lagoon - a must for those who want to unwind during their trip and enjoy hot springs and its pool.
