Some of the most beautiful sites to see and admire are the original peat houses. Factor in some time for delving into the Icelandic Saga stories.

My suggestion:
Take a detour from Varmahlid and spend some time visiting the site.
My review

Glaumbaer is without a doubt one of the best preserved cultural sites in Iceland. It's so interesting to delve into the Icelandic past through Glaumbaer's peat houses and unique sites.

Every time I see a traditional peat house, I realise how difficult life must have been back then. The humidity first and foremost seems to be trapped inside the peat walls and mud floors, not to mention the small size and the ever-present darkness. I love to visit but I wouldn't want to live there!

In Glaumbaer, you can immerse yourself in the rural life of the XIII and XIX century. You can also see some of the sites mentioned in the famous Icelandic Sagas and you can begin to imagine those who were here before us.

For me, it's a must-see and it makes a change from walking around and discovering natural sites.
