One of the greatest caves in the world hidden in the heart of the Huasteca region and incidentally the hiding place of an innumerable amount of birds.

My suggestion:
Prioritise a visit at dawn (hire a car), the whirlwind of thousands of birds in the early morning is an incredible sight.
My review

Situated a few kilometres from the village of Aquismón, the Cave of Swallows is considered the most beautiful vertical cave in the world More than 500 m deep, it is very popular with free-falling amateurs

Contrary to its name, the cave doesn't house a single swallow. The first to discover the cave actually confused the common swift with the swallow. Parakeets and other species also choose to nest here.

The cave, although beautiful, is untouched- perfect for all those who dream of destinations off the beaten track- and access is not easy especially in the early hours. Outside of the holiday season, the easiest thing to do is to hire a car. A little cabana at the entrance to the park will show you where the steep path through the dense forest starts to take you to the spot in question. And if you cannot get there in the morning, don't be disheartened, the birds return in their thousands just before sunset, which is also worth its weight in gold. I was lucky to spend the entire day there, what memories!
