Arriving here by car via the Bain’s Kloof and Mitchell’s Passes is incredible: the views from these two roads are truly spectacular, with the landscape halfway between desert and wine-growing region. Located in a valley, Ceres is quite a surprising little town, with its fruit orchards and good local wines … like some very green and verdant little corner of Switzerland. Though not an essential place to stop and see, it offers the advantage of being off the beaten track, and if you take the time to explore it, you'll discover a calm, peaceful little town where life is good and the living easy. 
It does get quite chilly here in summer and snows in winter, and the scenery is so fantastic, with all the vineyards, fruit trees and mountains, that I regretted not spending the night in the town. In the local shops here you can buy locally made fruit juices, dried fruits, local wines, cheese – everything you need for a good picnic!
