This walk is the most beautiful and the longest from Coffee Bay. I truly loved the views of the cliffs on the completely wild coastline, and I even saw some dolphins swimming offshore! You pass through typical Xhosa villages, you can chat to locals from which you can also buy fish and crayfish, which you must cook yourself on your return. It's a really beautiful walk. The rock in question is impressive and there is an echo. The Xhosas call it "Izi Khaleni", "the place of thunder".
A local legend about the Hole in the wall tells of a man of the sea people who saw a pretty girl sitting on a rock one day, admiring the sea. She was so beautiful that he fell desperately in love with her. The girl returned to her village, on the other side of the rock at the edge of a lagoon, to share with her father that she has met a man from the sea. But he forbade her from going out. Nevertheless, the young girl succeeded in escaping one night to find her beloved. He sent a giant fish to make a hole in the rock to allow access to the lagoon. The sea people arrived singing to the lagoon, the girl's lover was at the front. So he came to get his beloved and they went into the sea.
