Reviews of Tacheng

In the north-east of China, about 15 kilometers from the frontier with Kazakhstan, Tacheng is one of the least well known places to visit in Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

My review

Capital of the prefecture of the same name, Tacheng was once an important trading town on the Silk Road.

Among the tourist sites of the town and its surroundings there is the Red Tower of Tacheng, the local hot springs, Badanxing reserve, the banks of Lake Sarkule, the neighboring town of Baketu, etc.

Useful to know if you want to cross the frontier: you can only get into Kazakhstan from Tacheng (or any other frontier post) if you have obtained a visa before you go there.
