 Palmwag is the "pearl" of the northwestern region of Damaraland , located on the edge of the Skeleton Coast National Park. Palmwag is a place where the Uniab River flows and where several animals live, including the desert elephants.

When I arrived in the Palmwag Reserve, the place where I'd chosen to spend the night, I noticed that everything was green: there were palm trees, red rocky mountains, and green tufts dotted in the distance. The place was sublime. There were a few signs warning me that elephants could get close to the camp because they're used to drinking out of the pool at Palmwag Lodge. It was slightly unnerving but I found it rather surreal. And when the sun set over Palmwag, it was as though the sky was on fire with all the orange colours.  Finally, neither the elephants nor the lions came to the camp at night. I discovered them during a "desert elephant search" activity.
